"Quest for self-reliance and being a hub for green mobility": PM Modi to flag off made-in-India e-VITARA BEV, boost battery production in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the made-in-India Battery Electric Vehicle (e-VITARA) at Hansalpur. The BEV will be exported to over 100 countries. Production of hybrid battery electrodes has also commenced at a plant in Gujarat, boosting India's battery ecosystem.

Hansalpur (Gujarat) [India], August 26 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off the made-in-India Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) called e-VITARA at a programme in Hansalpur on Tuesday. The vehicle will be exported to over a hundred nations, marking a milestone in India's quest for self-reliance and green mobility.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a post on X wrote, "Today is a special day in India's quest for self-reliance and being a hub for green mobility. At the programme in Hansalpur, e-VITARA will be flagged off. This Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) is made in India and will be exported to over a hundred nations. In a big boost to our battery ecosystem, production of hybrid battery electrodes will also commence at a plant in Gujarat."
As per a release from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) dated August 24, PM Modi will also inaugurate localised production of hybrid battery electrodes at Hansalpur, Ahmedabad.
Maruti Suzuki unveiled its very first electric vehicle (EV) all new e-Vitara on the first day of Bharat Mobility Global expo at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi in January.
Toshihiro Suzuki, representative director and president, Maruti Suzuki Motor Corporation said, "India Japan and Europe, we aim to make the EV attractive through our 3 step strategy. First making BEVs attractive to customers, two develop a dedicated BEV platform, three right product based on customer requirement."
The electric models currently account for around 3 per cent of the total cars sold in India.
The e-Vitara features a bold and modern design. At the front, it sports sharp LED headlights with three-piece DRLs, a striking blacked-out bumper, fog lamps, and rugged silver skid plates that add to its aggressive look.
The e Vitara, has two lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack options -- 49kWh and 61kWh. The SUV will also have options for front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD).
The SUV has features like LED lamps (head and tail) and LED DRLs, 18/19-inch wheels, digital instrument panel, touchscreen infotainment, powered driver seat, wireless charger, JBL premium audio system, 360-degree camera and sunroof. Also available will be ADAS. (ANI)
