New Delhi [India], February 25 (ANI): BJP MP Manoj Tiwari has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of misleading the public, stating that they have "decided to spread lies." and criticized the party for previously placing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's portrait alongside those of BR Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, calling it an insult to their legacy.
Tiwari's remarks come amid ongoing political tensions between the BJP and AAP in Delhi as APP has accused the BJP of trying to side-line BR Ambedkar's legacy by replacing his portraits with those of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in key government offices, including the Delhi Chief Minister's office and the Assembly.
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday Tiwari said, "These people (AAP) have decided to spread lies...When they were in power, they used to put Arvind Kejriwal's portrait alongside Dr BR Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh. This is tantamount to insulting them..."
Earlier, AAP leader Sanjay Singh launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing it of removing the portraits of Dr BR Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh from government offices and displaying a mind-set that is "anti-national and against the country's great leaders."
"Bhimrao Ambedkar ji is the architect of the Indian Constitution. He gave direction to the country, and even today, the youth take inspiration from him and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, who sacrificed his life for India's freedom. The BJP has always had a mentality that is a national enemy," Singh said.
He justified AAP raising this issue in the Assembly the way its members were treated.
"If they insult our great leaders, will our party not raise this issue in the Assembly? And if we raise it in Parliament, will you drag our party members out like this?" he questioned.
Singh further alleged that the BJP's hatred for Ambedkar was evident at the national level.
"The entire country has now come to know that the BJP hates Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. In the Lok Sabha, the Home Minister of the country, Amit Shah, insulted Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha," he said. (ANI)
