Purnia witchcraft deaths: "Could not believe it," says family member of 5 people burnt alive

Speaking to ANI, Lalit Kumar said that he got a call from his brother at night that his family members were being burnt and asked him to come back. However, he was not able to come back the same night and went the next morning.

Purnia (Bihar) [India], July 7 (ANI): Lalit Kumar, whose family's five members were allegedly burnt alive due to black magic by the villagers, said that he could not believe that the incident was "true".
While speaking to ANI, Lalit Kumar said that he got a call from his brother at night that his family members were being burnt and asked him to come back. However, he was not able to come back the same night and went the next morning.
A complaint was filed by him in the police station and stated that the victims included his father, mother, brother, sister-in-law and grandmother.
"My brother called me and told me that the family members were being burnt and where I was. I could not come from there. When I came in the morning, I came to know and I could not believe that it was true. I came to know in the morning that they came to complain. There were five people, my father, mother, brother, sister-in-law and grandmother. The people of the village together burnt them," Lalit Kumar told ANI regarding a phone call from his brother.
Meanwhile, according to Pankaj Kumar Sharma, SDPO Sadar Purnea, the police received information about an incident related to five members being killed by the members of the Oraon community in a village under the Mufassil Police Station area. The police reached the spot and recovered all five charred bodies.
"We received information at 5 am that in a village under Mufassil Police Station area, from one Sonu (16) that in the name of black magic and witchcraft, members of the Oraon community killed five members of his family. Police reached there and recovered all five charred bodies," the police official said.
Pankaj Kumar Sharma further said that the police have arrested three accused in the matter and the entire village was involved in the incident.
"Three people have been arrested, others are unidentified, and an investigation is being done. People of entire village were involved," he said. (ANI)
