Amritsar (Punjab) [India], December 24 (ANI): Punjab Police have busted an interstate network of illegal opioid manufacturing and supply units running from pharma factories based in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, said Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar here on Sunday.
"The development came after the one-month-long meticulous investigations of backward and forward linkages carried out by the Amritsar City Police into the arrest of a local drug peddler identified as Prince Kumar of Amritsar, who was arrested after the recovery of 14,500 tramadol tablets," as per a press note from the Punjab police.
CP Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar divulged that, during questioning, the accused had revealed that he was supplying intoxicant tablets on the directions of Major Singh, who contacted him using mobile phone from Goindwal Sahib Jail. The police have also recovered a mobile phone from the possession of Major Singh inside jail. Major Singh was brought on a production warrant.
"Further, upon their disclosure, Baljinder Singh, Akash Singh, Surjit Singh, and Gurpreet Singh, all residents of Patti, Tarn Taran, and Mohar Singh of Harike, were also arrested," the note stated.
Gurpreet Singh and Major Singh disclosed that they got Pharma drug supplies from Sachin Kumar of Kosi Kalan district in Mathura. Sachin Kumar owned Elichem Pharm, based in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district.
"A team of CIA-1 under the supervision of DCP Investigation Harpreet Singh Mandher and ADCP CITY-3 Abhimanyu Rana was sent to UP for the arrest of Sachin Kumar. After the arrest of Sachin Kumar, it came to light that the latter, in connivance with Yogesh Kumar Rinku of Kosi Kalan, who was inside Mansa Jail, prepared fake documents of Elichem Pharma and were supplying intoxicant tablets to Punjab," as per the press note.
The police also recovered mobile phone from Yogesh Kumar inside Mansa jail and he was brought on production warrant.
"Yogesh Kumar and Sachin revealed that they were getting supply of Pharma Opioids from Gloss Pharmaceuticals based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Sachin Kumar met manufacturers Manish and Rekha in Delhi. They hatched a plan to illegally send the Pharma Opioids to Punjab via Hapur, Uttar Pradesh," the note stated.
They forged fake documents of wholesale units in the name of Elichem Pharma. Manufacturers, in connivance with Yogesh Kumar and Sachin, sent Pharma Opioids to Hapur. From Hapur, consignments were then sent to Akash in Agra, who further shipped the same to Amritsar.
"A police team of CIA-1 Amritsar, in a joint operation with ATS Gujarat raided Gloss Pharmaceutical in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and recovered 14,72,220 intoxicant tablets and capsules. Both the manufacturers were also arrested," the police stated in the press note.
Police have also arrested Akash from Agra and recovered 18000 intoxicant tablets from his possession.
"So far, police teams have arrested twelve people in this case," the note stated.
A case had already been registered under Section 22C of the NDPS Act at Police Station D Division in Amritsar City. (ANI)
