Punjab Police arrest three people for smuggling illegal weapons, recover 8 pistols

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], October 10 (ANI): Punjab Police has arrested three persons in two separate operations for smuggling illegal weapons into the state from Madhya Pradesh.
According to Punjab Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, those arrested were providing logistical assistance to criminal gangs.
"In a major blow to illegal arms smuggling into Punjab from Madhya Pradesh, Amritsar Rural Police, in two separate operations has apprehended three persons for smuggling illegal weapons. The arrested persons were providing logistical assistance to criminal gangs," the DGP said on X.
He also mentioned that eight pistols along with 17 live cartridges and four magazines were also recovered from them.
"Punjab Police will take stern action against organised crime and illegal weapon smuggling networks and is working to uncover the entire network, following both forward and backward linkages," the DGP emphasized.
On October 9, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dealt a massive blow to the trans-border narcotic network after they seized five-kilogram heroin and Rs 3.95 lakh drug money from Ajnala.
Technical leaders were developed in the intelligence based operation led to the arrest of three people following which a FIR was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
Earlier on October 8, continuing its fight against organised crime, Jalandhar Rural Police busted an interstate arms smuggling gang, arresting the leader and seizing 5 pistols
On October 7, in a breakthrough, Moga Police busted an illegal arms module operated by foreign-based handler Jagga Dhurkot and arrested 7 operatives of the gang. Five Pistols (32 Bore) with eight cartridge and magazines were recovered in the operation.
On October 5, in a blow to organised crime in Punjab the Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) in a joint-operation with Bathinda Police apprehended Jaspreet Singh aka Jassa, kingpin of Jassa Burj Gang along with 3 associates. They were involved in arms smuggling, snatching and kidnapping.
Previously 11 FIRs of heinous crime were registered against Jaspreet Singh. Four Pistols (32 Bore) with magazines and 11 live cartridges were recovered in the operation. The arrested accused have a criminal history with several criminal cases registered against them in Punjab. (ANI)
