Punjab police arrest 64 persons, recover drugs

A total of 49 FIRs were filed and 9445 liquor bottles were also recovered during the operation, as per the police.

Chandigarh [India], September 10 (ANI): Punjab Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 64 persons and recovered 667 grams of heroin along with two pistols during Operation 'SEAL-4' conducted with four neighbouring states to ensure peaceful conduct of the G20 Summit which concluded today in New Delhi.
A total of 49 FIRs were filed and 9445 liquor bottles were also recovered during the operation, as per the police.
"Two pistols along with ammunition, Rs 1.48 lakh cash, 667 grams of heroin, 35 kg poppy husk, 40 grams smack, 9275 bottles of licit and 170 bottles of illicit liquor were seized. The police teams have also rounded up 721 suspicious persons for questioning," a senior police official said.
Punjab Police checked all the vehicles entering and exiting the state to keep vigil against gangsters and anti-social elements, as per a statement from the Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab.
The operation was conducted from 8 am to 2 pm, jointly with the police forces of four neighbouring states— Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir— and Union Territory Chandigarh on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, the statement added.

Special Director General of Police Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that in the wake of the G-20 Summit, SSPs of border districts were asked to put strong nakas at inter boundaries in coordination with their counterparts in adjoining states to ensure checking of all the vehicles as part of 'OPS Seal-4'.
"He said that SSPs were asked to mobilise a maximum number of officers and manpower for this operation to lay strong ‘nakas’ at sealing points," the statement added.
He said that as many as 104 well-coordinated strong nakas involving over 1000 Police Personnel were set up under the supervision of Inspectors/DSPs at all the entry/exit points of 10 districts, which share boundaries with four border states and UT Chandigarh, it added.
The 10 inter-state border districts include Pathankot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka, Ropar, SAS Nagar, Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Hoshiarpur and Bathinda.
The Special DGP Shukla said that as many as 3624 vehicles entering the state were checked, of which 151 were challaned and 17 were impounded. "The Police have also registered 49 first information reports (FIRs) after arresting 64 persons. The police teams have also arrested one proclaimed offender". (ANI)
