Chandigarh [India], May 30 (ANI): Following the intervention of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Director General of Police VK Bhawra on Monday clarified his statement and said he has never affiliated Sidhu Moose Wala with the gangsters.
This came after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann asked him to issue a clarification regarding yesterday's press conference about this incident wherein he linked the murder to a gang war.
Clarifying his statement, the DGP said that he has the highest respect for Sidhu Moose Wala and called him a celebrated artist and cultural icon of Punjab.
The DGP condemned the murder in the strongest terms and said the investigation is underway and the perpetrators would be arrested soon to deliver justice.
DGP Bhawra further stated that on no occasion, he has ever said that Moosewala is a gangster or affiliated with gangsters.
"Claims and counter-claims by various persons claiming to be gangsters are coming on social media," Bhawra said. He stated that he has been misquoted by a section of the media
The DGP further said that Goldy Brar has claimed the responsibility on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and the investigation would look into all aspects of the murder.
In a press conference yesterday, Bhawra had informed that the jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's gang took the responsibility for Sidhu Mooswala's murder citing it to be a retaliation to the killing of Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera.
"Prima facie, it seems to be an inter-gang rivalry between the Lawrence Bishnoi Group and the Lucky Patial group," he said.
In a press statement, the DGP had said that three shooters identified as Sunny, Anil Lath, and Bholu, all residents of Haryana have already been arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell in connection with the murder of Vicky Midhukhera, while, another accused identified as Shaganpreet, who was manager of Sidhu Moosewala was also nominated as accused in the FIR registered regarding the murder of Vicky. Shaganpreet has escaped to Australia and is wanted by the Police.
Earlier today, Balkaur Singh, father of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, wrote to Mann demanding an apology from the Punjab DGP for relating the incident to the gang war. (ANI)
