Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], July 11 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to waive off loans of farmers and make efforts to implement the Swaminathan Commission Report.
Few hours before the Prime Minister was scheduled to address Kisan Kalyan rally in Punjab's Muktsar district, Amarinder Singh tweeted, "Narendra Modi ji, good to know that you will be addressing Punjab farmers today. Please use the opportunity to announce loan waiver and full implementation of the Swaminathan report. Our distressed farmers will be braving the heat to hear something positive from you. Please don't let them down."
Prime Minister Modi is attending the rally in the wake of a recent hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Kharif crops. The rally has been organised by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in association with the BJP in Punjab's Malout district.
SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal along with other local leaders are expected to attend the event.
On July 4, the Centre gave nod to the proposal to raise MSP by 50 per cent for 14 types of Kharif crops for the year 2018-19. (ANI)
