Punjab CM raises Khalistan issue with Trudeau

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], Feb 21 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh shared concerns with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about militancy issue related to the separatist movement of Khalistan, here on Wednesday.

Singh, who met with the Canadian Prime Minister earlier today, said, "I raised the issue of Khalistan, it's the primary issue, as there is money coming in from various countries including Canada."

"I took up the militancy concerns with Trudeau, the militancy concerns we have and he has assured us that they will look into this matter," he added.

Canadian Prime Minister, who is on a week-long State visit to India, visited Amritsar's Golden Temple on Wednesday, along with his wife and children.

The Punjab Chief Minister had earlier refused to meet Trudeau, claiming the Canadian Prime Minister's cabinet members were connected and supported the formation of Khalistan, a separate Sikh state movement.

Earlier in the day, Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu expressed confidence that the meeting would not only strengthen the ties between both the countries, but would also help to transform them.

"The 20-minute meeting between Captain Amarinder Singh and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can take Punjab 20 years ahead," Sidhu told ANI. (ANI)
