Pune: Seminar on "Quantum Technology" stresses role of computing, cryptography and sensing in modern warfare

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], March 26 (ANI): A seminar on "Quantum Technology: Impact on Future Wars and Way Forward" was organised in Pune on Wednesday by Headquarters Southern Command in collaboration with leading experts from industry and academia.
According to an official release, the disruptive role of quantum computing, cryptography and sensing in modern warfare was enumerated by senior government officials, eminent researchers and industry leaders.
Keynote address was given by Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command giving out the roadmap of adoption of Quantum Technology.
Potential military applications of Quantum Technology as well their impact on military strategies, emerging threats, and opportunities for integration into military operations were analysed and the need for collaborative efforts between the army, academia, and the private sector was emphasized.
Meanwhile, with technology taking over the world, India is stepping into the future with the National Quantum Mission (NQM), a major initiative by the Government of India to propel the nation to the forefront of quantum technology research and development.
Approved on April 19, 2023, by the Union Cabinet, the mission is set to span from 2023-24 to 2030-31, with a budget allocation of Rs 6,003.65 crore.
According to an official release, National Quantum mission, is not just a mission, but it is a bold step through which India aims to harness the power of quantum technology to drive innovation, strengthen security, and boost various industries, positioning itself as a global leader in this cutting-edge field.
Many countries are actively working on quantum computing and other quantum technologies, and India has a great opportunity to make significant contributions. The national quantum mission offers India a chance to play a key role, especially with favourable conditions right now. The outcomes of this mission could impact healthcare, clean energy, climate change, job creation, and much more, affecting every citizen's life. (ANI)
