Pune: Alert railway staff averted major accident

According to the railways officials, the boulders were found at the Chinchwad-Akurdi section of the Pune railway division of Central Railway on Friday evening.

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], October 6 (ANI): The timely action by authorities of the Pune railway division have averted a major accident by promptly removing the big boulders placed on railway track by unknown individuals.
According to the railways officials, the boulders were found at the Chinchwad-Akurdi section of the Pune railway division of Central Railway on Friday evening.
Boulders were kept at 5 places on this location, the officials added.
Fortunately, vigilant railway staff from the Civil Engineering department, who were in the area for routine track maintenance and weld testing, detected the obstruction in time, preventing a potentially serious incident.
According to a press statement from central railway public relations office, "While our railway staff of Civil engineering department has gone in this section for routine track maintenance weld testing work, staff observed that major boulders were kept on UP Line track."
Timely detection of this miscreant activity by staff avoided possibility of major incident, it added.
The official further said that soon after detecting the boulders, civil engineering control in DRM office, Pune were informed at 16:03 hrs and they asked to slow down the approaching trains if any, after passing the information trackmen removed the boulders and track was cleared.
Railway authorities have commended their staff's swift response, emphasizing the importance of maintaining track safety to ensure passenger well-being and uninterrupted train services.
However, an investigation is currently underway by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) to identify those responsible. (ANI)
