Pulwama terror attack: Rajanth Singh takes stock of J-K situation, meets five injured soldiers

New Delhi [India], Feb 15 (ANI): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday visited Srinagar to take stock of the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the heinous terrorist attack on a CRPF convoy on Thursday, which claimed the lives of 40 soldiers.
During his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Home Minister, accompanied by state Governor Satya Pal Malik, laid a wreath on the coffins of martyred soldiers at the Regional Training Centre of CRPF in Srinagar.
Two-minutes silence was also observed in the remembrance of the supreme sacrifice made by the brave soldiers. Later Rajnath shouldered a coffin in a symbolic gesture.
The Union Home Minister also visited the Army Base Hospital to inquire about the health of five injured soldiers and expressed satisfaction over their speedy recovery.
Later, at a high level meeting attended by the Governor, senior security and police officers, the Union Home Minister reviewed the security situation in the state.
Senior CRPF officials narrated the details of the terrorist attack on the CRPF convoy. Senior police officials assured that the perpetrators of the dastardly attack would be brought to justice.
Singh directed them to take all possible measures to enhance improvised explosive device (IED) detection capabilities and undertake additional measures to restrict civilian traffic during troop movement.
Before leaving for New Delhi, Singh addressed a press conference. He said: "The whole country salutes the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice."
He said all the state governments have been asked to extend maximum possible assistance to the families of martyred jawans.
The Union Home Minister said the country is fighting a decisive battle against terrorism unitedly and will certainly emerge as victorious.
"The world stands with India and the morale of the security forces is very high," he said.
He also reiterated that some misguided youths have joined hands with those across the border in their evil design to spread terrorism in India.
The Union Home Minister called for a review of personal security of those elements who take money from Pakistan's ISI and also appealed the people to maintain communal harmony.
Around 40 CRPF personnel were killed after a suicide bomber rammed a car laden with explosives into a bus carrying them on Thursday. The bus was extensively damaged in the blast.
The convoy comprised 78 buses in which around 2,500 personnel were travelling from Jammu to Srinagar.
Soon after the attack, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), which is based in Pakistan and backed by Islamabad, claimed the responsibility for the attack and said it was carried out by its suicide bomber. (ANI)
