Protest over PRC issue was politically motivated, says Arunchal Chief Minister Khandu

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], Feb 25 (ANI): The protest over the issue of Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) during which public and personal property was damaged, was politically motivated, said Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu here on Monday.
"This is no more the issue of Permanent Residence Certificates (PRC) as public and personal property was damaged. It was politically motivated," said a press statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
It was further informed that a commissioner level inquiry would be conducted in the matter. An ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh each along with a government job was announced for the family of the deceased killed in the police firing, while Rs 10 lakh each would be given to those who were seriously injured.
It was also informed that only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was present in the all-party meeting. The state Congress president was informed but he was out of town.
The damaged personal property would be assessed. The CM also urged the people not to spread rumours, the statement said further.
Violence broke out in the capital city Itanagar on Friday during a 48-hour strike against the issue of granting PRC to non-Arunachalee citizens.
The protesters, who opposed giving PRC to Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribes (APST) of Namsai and Chanaglang, burnt government vehicles and bus stops at Itanagar.
On Sunday, the protesters went on a rampage. They set on fire private house of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, burnt various vehicles and vandalised even police and fire stations in the capital. (ANI)
