Jiribam (Manipur) [India], November 11 (ANI): The Jiribam district administration on Monday issued orders prohibiting assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and "movement of any person outside their respective residences".
An order issued by the District Magistrate also prohibited carrying of fire arms, swords, sticks, stone or other lethal weapons, sharp edged article or objects of any description which can be used as offensive weapons.
Ten militants were killed in an encounter with CRPF personnel in Jiribam district of Manipur on Monday, Manipur Police said.
Arms and ammunition was also recovered from the place of encounter by the security forces.
The prohibitory order issued by District Magistrate Jiribam cited report by the police stating that there is an apprehension of widespread disturbance to peace and tranquillity and danger to human lives due to "unlawful activities of some anti-social elements for furtherance of their evil designs".
The prohibitory orders will not apply to the government agencies/functionaries and security forces involved in the maintenance of law and order and other essential services.
The order said written permission will be required in case of emergency and for persons who want to take out a procession for marriage, funeral etc. within the scheduled area.
Violence erupted in the northeastern state on May 3 last year following clashes during a rally organised by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category. (ANI)
