Prohibiting us from raking up Sabarimala issue is against secularism: Kummanam Rajasekharan
Trivandrum (Kerala) [India], March 12 (ANI): After the Chief Electoral Officer of Kerala on Monday said the Sabarimala issue cannot be debated while campaigning, former Mizoram Governor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kummanam Rajasekharan said that prohibiting the issue from being raised is "against the value of secularism" and "rather communal."

Trivandrum (Kerala) [India], March 12 (ANI): After the Chief Electoral Officer of Kerala on Monday said the Sabarimala issue cannot be debated while campaigning, former Mizoram Governor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kummanam Rajasekharan said that prohibiting the issue from being raised is "against the value of secularism" and "rather communal."
"BJP is committed to protect the values of secularism and maintain communal harmony. If they are prohibiting speaking on Sabarimala issue it means they are against the secularism and are communal. They are the people who are violating the basic tenets of the procedural aspects of the election procedure," Rajasekharan told media here on Tuesday.
He also said he will approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the order of the state Chief Electoral Officer and would file a complaint seeking the intervention of the CEC.
"We will go to Election Commission, as this is not the direction from EC but it is an observation of an Electoral Officer," he said.
While the entry of women into Sabarimala remains a topic of debate, the Election Commission has issued a strict warning that the temple's name should not be used while campaigning.
Elections to the 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held on April 23 and the votes will be counted on May 23 (ANI)
