New Delhi [India], August 14 (ANI): Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday voiced her deep concern over the increasing number of terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the wake of a recent encounter in Doda that claimed the life of an Indian Army officer.
In a post on X, Gandhi expressed her sorrow, stating, "The news of the martyrdom of an Indian Army officer in an encounter with terrorists in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is extremely sad. May God give peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family of the martyr to bear this sorrow."
Highlighting the alarming situation, Gandhi noted that in the last four months alone, there have been 83 terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 20 soldiers and 14 civilians.
Gandhi urged the central government to take "strict and concrete steps" to address the rising threat of terrorism, emphasizing that the entire nation stands united against such acts of violence.
A captain of the Indian army was killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Wednesday, officials said.
According to Defence officials, "A Captain of the Indian Army from the 48 Rashtriya Rifles was killed in action during the ongoing Op Assar in Doda district". The officer was killed while leading a search party during the operation.

The operation that began on Tuesday in the Assar area is still in progress. The search operation was launched by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police after the encounter started.

Earlier today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday convened an important meeting on the "rising" terror-related incidents in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

As per officials, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Director General of Military Operations-Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma and heads of the security-related agencies were present in the meeting. (ANI)
