New Delhi [India], Oct. 18 (ANI): President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed condolences over the demise of veteran Congress leader and former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand chief minister Narayan Datt Tiwari.
Taking to his Twitter handle, President Kovind remembered Tiwari for his contribution towards the development and public welfare work in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
"Sad to hear of the passing of veteran political figure and former Union minister Shri N.D. Tiwari. As chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and later Uttarakhand, he contributed much to development and public welfare. My condolences to his family and associates," he Tweeted.
Prime Minister Modi also expressed grief and tweeted, "A towering leader, he (Tiwari) was known for his administrative skills. He will be remembered for his efforts towards industrial growth and working for the progress of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, a state he steered in its initial days."
Meanwhile, former prime minister Manmohan Singh wrote a letter to ND Tiwari's wife Dr Ujjwala Tiwari expressing grief on the demise of her husband.
Singh described Tiwari as an "efficient minister of the Union Government" and said that his service to the nation would always be remembered for a long time to come.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat also expressed sympathy to the bereaved family over their loss and remembered the Congress leader as an 'able administrator'.
"He will be remembered as an able administrator, diplomat and for working towards the progress of Uttarakhand just after the state was formed," Rawat said.
The veteran Congress leader passed away earlier in the day at a hospital in South Delhi on his 93rd birthday.
Tiwari was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Max Hospital in July following kidney infection and multiple organ failure. He was the only politician, who served as the Chief Minister of two states. (ANI)
