President Kovind pays tribute at Amar Jawan Jyoti

New Delhi (India), Aug 15 (ANI): On the occasion of Independence Day, President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday paid tribute at Amar Jawan Jyoti. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba and Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa were also present.

New Delhi (India), Aug 15 (ANI): On the occasion of Independence Day, President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday paid tribute at Amar Jawan Jyoti. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba and Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa were also present.
The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated across the nation with senior leaders commemorating the struggle for freedom. The Prime Minister for the fifth time addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took the nation by surprise when he decided to sing 'Hum honge kamyab' at the Independence function at Delhi's Chhatrasal Stadium.
Veteran BJP leader LK Advani also unfurled the tricolour at his residence on the occasion.
The national flag was unfurled at the Kalam House by Mohammed Muthu Meera Lebbai Maraikayar, the elder brother of former President APJ Abdul Kalam.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee unfurled the national flag in Kolkata. Exchange of sweets also took place between India and Bangladesh at the Indo-Bangladesh border at border outposts (BOP) Fulbari.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi unfurled the tricolour at Party headquarters in Delhi. Similarly, BJP President Amit Shah also unfurled the national flag at Party headquarters in Delhi. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat hoisted the national flag at Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra in Karnataka's Bengaluru.
In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami hoisted the tricolour in Chennai.
On this day, every year, India celebrates its freedom from the British colonial rule in 1947. The historic event is celebrated on this day through religious ceremonies, parades, official government functions and a speech from the Prime Minister. (ANI)
