Pralhad Joshi highlights India's "significant growth" in renewable energy sector

New Delhi [India], April 1 (ANI): Union Minister Pralhad Joshi addressed a press conference on Tuesday and explained India's progress in the renewable energy sector over the past year.
He stated that India's renewable energy sector has achieved significant growth and has added 25 GW in the financial year which ended on March 31, 2025. Joshi said that it is an increase of 35 per cent as compared to previous year.
"The renewable energy sector has made tremendous progress in the last year. India's renewable energy sector achieved the highest ever capacity addition in the financial year 2024-25 by installing 25 gigawatts. During the year ending on March 31, 2025, there was an increase of almost 35 per cent as compared to last year, which was almost 18.57 gigawatts," Pralhad Joshi said during his press conference.
Pralhad Joshi further highlighted that India has clocked an impressive growth of 38 per cent in solar energy and soared from 15 GW to 21 GW in the previous financial year. He also informed that India has crossed the 100 GW mark in solar energy this year.
"Renewable energy in solar, last year it was 15 gigawatts which has increased to 21 gigawatts this time. It is an increase of 38 per cent, the figure is tentative and can grow further. This year we crossed the 100 gigawatt mark in the solar energy and we are currently standing on 103 gigawatts," Joshi said.
Furthermore, he informed that the Union Government has taken a big step to 'decarbonise' by mandating the introduction of BioCNG in the transportation sector and domestic households.
In a significant announcement at the start of FY26, a big step is being taken to further decarbonise the transport sector and domestic households by mandating the introduction of BioCNG for blending of compressed biogas with compressed natural gas (CNG) for transportation and piped natural gas (PNG) for households. The blending obligation starts from with 1per cent on April 1, 2025, increasing upto 5 per cent by FY 2028-29," Joshi said. (ANI)
