Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) [India], Mar 21 (ANI): The Crime Branch-CID of the Tamil Nadu police, probing the Pollachi sexual assault case, has summoned Congress leader Mayura Jayakumar, asking him to appear before March 25.
"Yesterday, I received a summon from the CB-CID to be present before March 25. I was told that during the incident, Tirunavukkarasu (an accused in the case) had said he was not in Pollachi and had come to Coimbatore with his father and greeted me at the Congress district office," Jayakumar told ANI.
"The CB-CID wanted to know if the criminal was at the Congress district office on the particular date. They didn't ask any questions beyond this. I have given my statement in writing. I am ready to furnish any information whenever the authorities call me," he said.
Jayakumar said that he did not have any links with the accused persons.
"I am not connected to this incident. I have mentioned very clearly (to the police) that I have no links with the accused persons. My stand is clear," he said.
In the Pollachi sex scandal, more than 50 women were allegedly lured and sexually harassed by a gang of four and the acts were filmed.
Four accused persons identified as Sabarirajan, Sathish, Thirunavukarasu and Vasan Kumar were arrested in the case.
They have been arrested under Section 392, 354 (A), 354 (B) of the Indian Penal Code and 66A of the Information Technology Act.
On March 15, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a court-monitored probe into the sex scandal.
The case was transferred to the CB-CID which initiated an inquiry into the matter on March 13 after receiving requisite documents from the local police.
The Crime Branch had last week registered an FIR against DMK president MK Stalin’s son-in-law, Sabareesan, for allegedly spreading rumours in connection with the case. (ANI)
