Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], October 26 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday hit back at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for calling Satara doctor's alleged suicide an "institutionalised murder", alleging Congress of politicising the case.
Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, CM Fadnavis said that Rahul Gandhi did not take complete information into account while posting on social media.
He said, "Rahul Gandhi doesn't know what he posts. He doesn't take the complete information. The case is very clear. The doctor who committed suicide has written a note on her hand, and that has partially helped solve the case. I have clearly said that the accused will not be spared, but Rahul Gandhi and his party are politicising such a sensitive issue. "
This comes after Rahul Gandhi targeted the BJP-led Mahayuti government of Maharashtra, terming it a case of "institutionalised murder."
In a post on X, Gandhi said that the doctor's death exposes the "inhumane and insensitive" face of the BJP government.
The Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) said that a promising doctor, who aspired to alleviate the suffering of others, became a victim of the persecution of criminals entrenched in a corrupt system.
The case came into light when a note on the hand of the doctor who was found dead in Maharashtra's Satara on Friday named the police official and two others for driving her to take the extreme step by subjecting her to physical and mental harassment.
Satara Police arrested two persons, Police Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne and Prashant Bankar, in connection with the case. A case was registered against the accused duo under charges of rape and abetment to suicide. The Police Sub-Inspector Badne named in the note was suspended following this development.
Earlier, addressing a public meeting in Satara, the Maharashtra CM denied the involvement of Mahayuti leaders Ranjit Dada and Sachin Patil in the case.
Condoling the death of the doctor, he said, "Sometimes an incident is very unfortunate. The day before yesterday, our younger sister committed suicide here. Her death is very sad. She had even written the reason for taking her life on her hands. The police have immediately arrested the accused. All the facts related to the case are coming out. We will not sit quietly until justice is given to our little sister."
He assured the public of "no compromise" in the probe into the alleged suicide.
"But in every matter, some people try to do politics. For no reason, the names of our Ranjit Dada and Sachin Patil (local MLA) have been linked. The people of Maharashtra know Deva Bhau very well; if there had been even the slightest doubt in this matter, I would have cancelled this program. In such matters, I do not look at party, I do not look at the person, nor do I look at politics... This is the case of our little sister. No compromise will be made," he said.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde said that the government will take the matter to the fast-track court.
Shinde told reporters, "The accused have been arrested. The incident is condemnable and unfortunate. In this case, none of the accused will be let go, there will be very harsh punishment, and the whole matter will go to the fast-track court."
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Gopinath Munde, who met with the family of the deceased doctor, gave assurance of justice in the case.
"After I got to know the details today, I visited the family of the deceased, offered condolences, and assured them of support. I will discuss the matter with the Chief Minister, and I am confident that justice will be served," Munde said.
In a development in the case, the accused PSI (Police Sub-Inspector) Gopal Badne will be presented before the court, said Satara Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi, adding that further proceedings would be conducted after that.
Speaking to ANI earlier today, Tushar Doshi said, "Absconding accused PSI Gopal Badne appeared at the Phaltan Rural Police Station late last night. We will present him before the court today and conduct further proceedings." (ANI)
