Political leaders who are not voters will have to go out of voting constituency during polling: Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], November 12 (ANI): Ahead of the first phase of polling in Jharkhand, state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K. Ravi Kumar said that all political workers including political leaders who are not the voters will not be present at the voting constituency during the polling process.
Ravi Kumar says, "All political workers including political leaders who are not the voters will have to go out of the voting constituency. No exemptions to this. Voters should not take pictures inside the booth as happened last time. Clicking selfies with EVMs and inside booths is a criminal offence. Within the 200 meters of the booth, no posters or banners will be allowed. Apart from voter cards, there are 12 other identification cards which can be used for voting. For NRI voters passport is a must."
He appealed to voters to follow the secrecy of voting.
"During the last polls, two voters clicked selfies with the EVM. Within the 200 meters of the booth, no food items can be eaten. Here two people will be present to distribute information slips. The slip will have no photo or name. The single plain paper will have only voter identification with serial numbers," he added.
Campaign ended on Monday for the first phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand with leaders making strong efforts to woo the electorate.
Campaigning in the state, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and accused him of "humiliating" Champai Soren.
"Champai Soren has been loyal for so many years, standing with Hemantji, but how he was humiliated and removed is not just an insult to Champai Soren but an insult to the entire tribal community. The main issue was that Champai Soren stated that corruption should stop, but the JMM was not willing to end it," he alleged.
The Jharkhand Assembly elections are set to be held in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23. In the previous assembly election, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 30 seats, the BJP won 25 and Congress won 16 seats. (ANI)
