Parbhani (Maharashtra) [India], December 12 (ANI): Following violence in Maharashtra's Parbhani city, District Magistrate Raghunath Khandu Gawade stated on Thursday that police have gathered substantial evidence, including CCTV footage, and actions are being taken after thorough examination.
Speaking to ANI, DM Gawade said, "The Superintendent of Police (SP) and I visited the site, convinced the workers, and garlanded the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar and the Constitution. This was done peacefully on December 10. However, yesterday, they had planned a symbolic protest, but after 12-12:30 pm, roads were blocked in several areas, arson was reported at a few locations, and stone pelting occurred. Consequently, the police resorted to lathi charges and used tear gas shells. By the evening, around 50 people were arrested, and an FIR was filed against them. An SRPF platoon has been deployed in the city, and there is adequate police presence. Law and order are under control at present, with no issues reported."
He further mentioned that 5-6 police personnel sustained minor injuries, police vehicles were damaged, and private properties were also affected.
"We have formed eight teams to conduct panchnamas, and the process is underway. The main accused was arrested on December 10, and a case was filed against him. He remains in police custody. If others are involved, the police are investigating. Strict action will be taken. Police have ample evidence, including CCTV footage and videos, and action is being taken only after careful examination and a proper investigation. No action is being taken against anyone uninvolved," he said. "The SP is handling the case, and DIG Nanded is also camping in the city to oversee the investigation."
Meanwhile, violence erupted in Parbhani city on Wednesday over the alleged vandalism of a replica of the Indian Constitution. On December 11, a team of Nanded police patrolled the violence-affected areas in Parbhani. (ANI)
