Amravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], Sep 12 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said the Polavaram project made his life fruitful and lauded the fast pace with which the project is being constructed.
The Polavaram Project has triggered a blame game between the Centre and Andhra Pradesh government. While the state is blaming the Centre for not providing adequate funds in time, the Centre has accused the state administration of not filing utility certificates causing delay in channelising funds.
"After bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and the 2014 elections, I appealed to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bigwigs to add the seven mandals from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh, otherwise I wouldn't take-up chief ministerial post. I virtually inspected it 70 times, directly inspected 27 times. We are working on 57 projects. Once they are completed, water woes in the state will be resolved," he added.
The Chief Minister further said that Polavaram will be a great tourist attraction, and appreciated all those working on this project.
"Many criticised me for taking up the construction of the national project. In fact, I didn't ask for it. Niti Aayog recommended me for construction," he added.
Naidu, along with his cabinet ministers, Members of Legislative Assembly, Members of Legislative Councils and BJP's Vishnu Kumar Raju held a gallery walk at the site.
Polavaram is considered to be the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh, as it has the potential to fulfill the water needs of all 13 districts. Though the project has been under consideration even before independence, it picked up momentum only after 2015. As of now, 58 per cent of the construction is complete. (ANI)
