New Delhi [India], October 30 (ANI): Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card after careful thought.
" PM Modi brought this scheme after thinking very carefully. There are so many poor people who fall severely sick after the age of 70. They would need lakhs of rupees for treatment but they wouldn't have that much money. So old people never used to go for treatment," Jadhav told ANI.
"PM Modi couldn't see this suffering so he brought in this scheme where anyone who is above 70 years old gets sick, they can avail free treatment from big hospitals using this card," he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that health coverage under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) will now be available to all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of their income.
This enlarged program provides all citizens 70 years of age and above with free health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per year, regardless of their financial situation or income. Many senior residents have suffered from expensive medical care, and the program seeks to give them access to respectable healthcare.
Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card has been introduced as part of the PM-JAY scheme.
"This card guarantees that senior citizens won't have to worry about exorbitant medical bills anymore. "They can now coexist with Swabhimaan," the Prime Minister declared during the inauguration.
The government's commitment to universal health care will be further cemented with the inclusion of elderly folks, PM Modi stressed, adding that the plan has already helped 4 crore people.
The eligibility criteria for applying under this program are the applicant should be a permanent resident of the country of India; the applicant should be an elder citizen whose age will be 70 years and above.
Under the benefits of this card, if multiple elderly individuals reside in the same household, the cover will be shared among them.
According to the government, the scheme ensures that every elder citizen of the country should live with honour, they don't have to be dependent on anyone for health care expenses. (ANI)
