Begusari (Patna) [India], January 6 (ANI): Hitting back at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the situation in Manipur, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said on Friday that Home Minister Amit Shah and the PM were taking steps to resolve the ethnic strife in Manipur, which erupted in 2023.
Attacking the Congress, the BJP leader alleged that Manipur, which has been witnessing ethnic strife since May 2023, "burned" under Congress rule for six years.
The Union Minister was responding to Kharge's remarks targeting PM Narendra Modi over handling the situation in Manipur.
Hitting back at Kharge, Giriraj said while speaking to ANI, "Mallikarjun Kharge and the Congress party have done nothing except spread confusion across the country. They did political tourism by going to Manipur".
"The Union Home Minister and Prime Minister are resolving the issues in Manipur. During their (Congress) regime, Manipur burned for 6 years," he said.
The Minister for Panchayat Raj also said that the BJP-led Union has brought the situation under control.
"We have brought this under control. They (Congress) should not confuse people," he further added.
During the day, at a press conference in the National Capital, Kharge said the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will start in Manipur.
"An unfortunate incident occurred in Manipur and keeps happening. But Prime Minister here is visiting the beach, goes for a swimming photo session, then now construction is happening in temples, so he goes there, takes photos," Kharge said.
"He goes to Kerala, goes to Mumbai, takes photos. We see his photos of going everywhere, even you must be tired of seeing this, but you also do not leave a chance to click pictures. He goes everywhere. Just like the 'darshan' of God first thing after waking up, it's the PM's photos seen everywhere. But why did this great man not go to Manipur?" he added.
Manipur has been witnessing ethnic strife between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo tribal community since May 2023. (ANI)
