Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], August 30 (ANI): Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a great gift to the women of the country by reducing the prices of the LPG cylinder.
“Yesterday, PM gave a great gift to the women of the country... In Odisha when PM Modi took the responsibility there were 20-22 per cent LPG connections. In Odisha, there are 1 crore households, out of which 21 lakh houses have LPG connections. Now this number has increased to 96 lakhs. In this 53 lakhs, connections are under Ujjwala Yojana...” Dharmendra Pradhan said while speaking to reporters.
The Centre had on Tuesday announced a reduction in the prices of cooking gas by Rs 200 per cylinder.
The Modi government called it a gift to the "sisters" of the country so as to make the lives of the women in the country comfortable while on the contrary, the Opposition was quick to label the move as a 'political gimmick'.
Congress' media in charge Jairam Ramesh posted on X "...Three months before the 5 state elections, where BJP is staring at certain defeat, and six months before the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is literally clutching at straws. Expect more such ‘gifts’ in the coming months as the Prime Minister becomes even more desperate to cling on to his chair."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier said that the reduction in prices of cooking gas cylinders will make the lives of women easier.
Taking to X PM Modi said, "The festival of Raksha Bandhan is a day to increase happiness in a family. The reduction in gas prices will increase the comfort of the sisters in my family and make their lives easier. May every sister of mine be happy, be healthy, be happy, this is my wish from God."
Effective from Wednesday, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will be reduced by Rs 200 across the country. In Delhi, for instance, the decision will bring down the cost of a 14.2 kg cylinder from the existing Rs 1,103 per cylinder to Rs 903. (ANI)
