New Delhi [India], Feb 12 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the death of 17 people in a major fire in a central Delhi hotel even as the AAP government ordered an magisterial enquiry into the incident.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a fire at Karol Bagh in Delhi. I convey my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. May the injured recover soon,” PM Modi tweeted.
Ordering the enquiry into the incident, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar said, “This is a five-storey building and there is a temporary above it. The roof of the temporary construction is covered with a fibre sheet which is the reason for the fire. Most people died due to suffocation."
He said that the strict action will be taken against those found guilty of negligence.
“No building more than four-storey high can be constructed in this area. I have directed the fire department to give me a report of the buildings with more than four storeys,” the Delhi Health Minister said.
At least 17 people, including a child, were killed and 11 others injured after a massive fire broke out in Hotel Arpit Palace in the wee hours of Tuesday. (ANI)
