Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], December 18 (ANI): Union Minister and BJP's Tamil Nadu state election in-charge Piyush Goyal will visit Chennai on December 23, ahead of the Legislative Assembly polls next year, BJP leader RN Jayaprakash said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference, Tamil Nadu BJP Vice President RN Jayaprakash also said that the newly elected BJP National Working President will visit Chennai on December 20.
He said, "Our new national working president, Nitin Nabin, will come to Chennai airport, where we will give him a grand welcome. He then plans to travel to Puducherry. Union minister and Tamil Nadu state election in-charge Piyush Goyal to come to Chennai on December 23."
Taking a jibe at Chief Minister MK Stalin, the BJP leader claimed that the DMK government has not yet fulfilled its poll promises made during the 2021 elections.
"The CM had introduced as many schemes for women. Still, we don't know why they have not fulfilled their election promises of the gold Mangalsutra scheme and LPG subsidy," he told reporters.
Top BJP leaders, Piyush Goyal and Nitin Nabin, will visit the state amid a row over the Madurai Karthigai Deepam, where the BJP has backed the court directive to light the lamp atop the Deepathoon on the stone pillar at Thirupparankundram hill, while the DMK government opposes it.
Earlier on Tuesday, BJP leader K Annamalai called for abolishing the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) of Tamil Nadu, which is opposing the directive to light the lamp atop the Deepathoon.
Addressing a public meeting in Puducherry, Annamalai said the government department opposed the directive, even though the Muslim community had not questioned the Madras High Court verdict.
The BJP leader said, "It's high time to abolish the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments of Tamil Nadu.
""It's surprising that after the verdict on December 1, no Muslim or locals questioned it. But the Temple Secretary appealed. That's why we ask Why is there a Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments of Tamil Nadu?" he added.
He slammed the DMK government, calling them against the Hindu community. "We are only supporting the spirit of the people. DMK very clearly is against the Hindu community and even the laws and norms of the land. That is why, unwantedly, they have provoked this issue. They have gone against the court judgment," he said.
The State is likely to undergo the Legislative Assembly elections in 2026. (ANI)
