People of Himachal will support BJP for its honesty: Piyush Goyal

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India] November 5 (ANI): Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday said people of Himachal Pradesh will support Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Assembly election as the party believes in honesty and speedy development.

Addressing a press conference here, the Goyal said, "People of Himachal Pradesh, under the leadership of Prem Kumar Dhumal, will pick BJP as it supports honesty and speedy development. Himachal will now compete with Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh by making BJP victorious with majority votes."

He further said Himachal, like Uttarakhand, will also make BJP victorious in the state by more than two-third majority.

"Before 2014, the BJP and allied parties had governments in six states, while today, 18 states have our governments which are serving in the interest of the public. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, transparency, integrity and development of country's interest at a faster pace is clearly evident," Goyal said.

He added that the BJP wants to create a new India where everyone has a roof over their head and has access to better education and health facilities.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mocked the Congress in an election rally in Himachal Pradesh's Palampur saying "corruption is the only identity of the party".

Taking a jibe at Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh for undergoing probe in connection with a Disproportionate Assets case worth Rs. 10 crore, the Prime Minister said, "Corruption is the only identity of Congress party. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister from Congress is known for corruption."

The Prime Minister said the people of Himachal Pradesh will remember former chief ministers Prem Kumar Dhumal for his contribution in promoting tourism and Shanta Kumar for taking up the herculean task of laying water pipelines, but the Congress governance for corruption.

The state goes to polls on November 9. (ANI)
