"Pavagada multi-village water supply programme nears completion, will bring clean water to over 17 lakh people": Priyank Kharge

Under the Pavagada multi-village water supply programme initiated by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, the drinking water supply process will soon be started for 1,138 villages and 2 towns in Bellary, Chitradurga and Tumkur districts, Congress leader and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said.

Pavagada (Karnataka) [India], July 10 (ANI): Under the Pavagada multi-village water supply programme initiated by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, the drinking water supply process will soon be started for 1,138 villages and 2 towns in Bellary, Chitradurga and Tumkur districts, Congress leader and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said.
Rural Development, Panchayat Raj and Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge, who witnessed the ongoing works near Pawgad and Kwadigunte in Tumkur district, said that 1,138 of Chilakanahatti, Kudligi, Molakalmuru, Challakere, Turavanur taluks are using Tungabhadra backwater through multi-village water supply project.
He informed that water will be supplied to 17.21 lakh people in villages and two towns. Chilakanahatti and 14 rural residential areas in Hospet taluk of Bellary district and Ujjini in Kudligi taluk and 215 rural residential areas; Molakalmuru town and 132 rural residential areas in Chitradurga district, 360 rural residential areas in Challakere taluk and Chitradurga in Chitradurga district.
The minister said that 1,138 villages and 2 towns, including Turavanur and 58 rural residential areas and Pavagada town and 357 rural residential areas of the taluk will get Tungabhadra water facility.
The works of Chilakanahatti, Kudligi, Molakalmuru, Challakere, Turavanur and Pavagada water supply project have been completed by 95% and the installation works of pipelines have been completed. Minister Priyank Kharge also said that electricity supply approvals for all projects (CEIG and BESCOM) have been received and lakhs of people in three districts will get clean water under this mega project.
Work on the expenditure plan has been progressing at a fast pace since last year, with an outlay of Rs1,852.15 crore till May 2024. The Minister also said that the expenses have been incurred. Minister Priyank Kharge also informed that 85 liters of water per day will be provided to the people of the rural areas as per the international standards, and 135 liters of water will be provided to the people of the towns.
The minister also said that the works of water treatment plants have been completed and the works of installing pipelines have been completed and the construction works of 568 overhead tanks are nearing completion. (ANI)
