New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that invoking Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru today is irrelevant.
While speaking to ANI, Ramesh said, "Pandit Nehru died more than 60 years ago. Pandit Nehru is history; we do not want to go into history...The Prime Minister had given a clean chit to China on 19 June 2020. How is the relationship between China and Pakistan today...The PM does not break its silence on China, President Trump. He is only taking credit for Operation Sindhoor, politicising it, holding rallies here and there, giving filmy dialogues, dialogue-baazi is going on..."
Congress leader accused the Prime Minister of diverting attention from China-related concerns by giving dramatic speeches and politicising military operations.
"The Prime Minister had given a clean chit to China on 19 June 2020. How is the relationship between China and Pakistan today... The PM does not break its silence on China, President Trump. He is only taking credit for Operation Sindhoor, politicising it, holding rallies here and there, giving filmy dialogues, dialogue-baazi is going on..." he told ANI.
He also criticised the lack of a strong parliamentary response to the ongoing threats from China and Pakistan, especially in the context of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
He said that the government failed to hold meaningful discussions during all-party meetings, and that the Prime Minister had not fulfilled the demand for a special session of Parliament.
"We demanded that there should be an all-party meeting and the Prime Minister should preside over it. Two meetings have been held. It was a formality. The Defence Minister chaired it. Nothing came out of it; no discussion took place. The questions we asked were asked in a constructive, serious, and sensitive manner, but there was no response to that. The atmosphere was of unity and cohesion."
Ramesh added that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi had written to the Prime Minister on May 10, urging him to call a special Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha special session.
He stressed that the session was important to pass a unanimous resolution, just like the one passed on February 22, 1994, regarding PoK and terrorism.
"On May 10, both Kharge ji and Rahul ji wrote to the Prime Minister asking him to call a special session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Why should it be called? So that we can repeat the special resolution that was passed unanimously on February 22, 1994, regarding PoK, regarding the issue of terrorism. In the last 30 years, both countries have become nuclear countries and more than that, the role of China has become deep in Pakistan, it is also a challenge for us. So there should be a debate on this. And a resolution should be passed unanimously, so that the message of a collective resolution is given to the world. He is silent on this, too...," he added.
