Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 17 (ANI): Tripura Bharatiya Janta Party President Rajib Bhattacharjee on Monday said that the party would listen to the voices of the grassroot workers right from page-in-charge to Shakti Kendra level for selection of candidates for the ensuing three-tier Panchayat polls.
Speaking exclusively to ANI, Bhattacharjee said, "BJP is a party that relies heavily on its workers and the people who act as the main workforce of the party will be given patient hearing before taking any decision on selection of candidates for the Panchayat polls. Page in charge, Shakti Kendra and booth level workers will be asked to express their views and suggestions. Based on their recommendations, we shall proceed further."
Bhattacharjee along with Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha earlier chaired a meeting of the party MLAs and Ministers at party headquarters.
"The meeting was convened to discuss the party's strategy for the Panchayat elections. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, General Secretary Organisation Rabindra Raju, all the Ministers and MLAs attended the meeting. A similar meeting will be organized on Monday where all Mandal presidents shall remain present. The purpose of the meetings is to review the lapses of the last elections and draw a roadmap through which we shall proceed further," he told ANI.
On being asked about the role of ally IPFT and Tipra Motha, he said, "We shall discuss with them at the right time."
Reacting sharply to the opposition Congress Party's demand for the deployment of CAPF and introduction of an online nomination submission process, Bhattacharjee said that the BJP welcomes the decision of the poll panel as it has no organizational weakness like the opposition.
"Assembly elections of 2023 and Lok Sabha polls of 2024 were conducted in the presence of CAPF but what was the performance of the opposition? They have been rejected and nowhere in the ground do they have workers who can make them win polls that are fought at local levels," he added. (ANI)
