Padmaavat row: Rajasthan calls for peaceful protest

Bharatpur (Rajasthan) [India], Jan 25 (ANI): Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria on Thursday appealed the people to protest peacefully after two minor incidents were reported in connection with the protest against the release of the film 'Padmaavat'.
The Home Minister assured that the law and order situation in the state is under control.
"Law and order situation is peaceful across the state. Only two minor incidents have been reported in Jalore and Udaipur. If multiplexes ask for protection we'll certainly give it to them," Kataria told ANI.
He urged the people to protest peacefully and "not to take the law into their hands".
Kataria's statement comes hours after two states sought help from the Central government with regard to the violent incidents surrounding the release of the film.
Earlier in the day, sources at the Ministry of Home Affairs refrained from naming the two states.
The ministry is keeping a track of the incidents around the release of the controversial movie and is in touch with all the states over security measures, the sources informed.
Various Hindu and Rajput fringe outfits have raised objections over the epic drama alleging that the Rajput queen, Padmavati, has been misportrayed in the film.
The movie hit the screens today across the country after getting a green signal from the Supreme Court recently. (ANI)
