"Padma Shri is a pat on my shoulder...," Tamil writer RN Joe D'Cruz

After receiving Padma Shri in the field of literature and education, Tamil writer RN Joe D'Cruz on Monday said that this award is a pat on his shoulder.

New Delhi [India], April 22 (ANI): After receiving Padma Shri in the field of literature and education, Tamil writer RN Joe D'Cruz on Monday said that this award is a pat on his shoulder.
Tamil writer RN Joe D'Cruz, was conferred with the Padma Shri award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the national capital on Monday.
"I am working to create awareness among the people in coastal India so that they also get political awareness and they also get recognition for their work. This award is really a pat on my shoulder, getting recognition from the central government of India and the coast really enjoys that Joe D'Cruz won this award," he said
He further said that this is not a big achivements but this is a recognition by the government.
"I don't do anything achivements, I contribute. I contribute to my people. I contribute to Coastal India and we want to inform the Government of India from Coastal India which is very well within part of India and we are citizens of India. We want to thank India and the government for recognizing the coast," he added.
In the ceremony, former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, late Sulabh International founder Bindeshwar Pathak, and illustrious Bharatanatyam dancer Padma Subrahmanyam were honoured with the esteemed Padma Vibhushan award by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the national capital.
The 2024 awards list, approved by the President, comprises 132 recipients, including five Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 110 Padma Shri awardees. Notably, the list includes 30 women, eight individuals from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI, and nine posthumous awardees.
Padma Awards - one of the highest civilian Awards of the country is conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
The Awards are given in various disciplines/fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
'Padma Vibhushan' is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; 'Padma Bhushan' for distinguished service of high order and 'Padma Shri' for distinguished service in any field.
The Padma Awards announced annually on the eve of Republic Day, continue to celebrate the nation's exceptional talent and service to society. (ANI)
