New Delhi [India], November 3 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised the Indian women's cricket team for winning the Women's ODI World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs.
She said that the victory is for "every girl with a bat or a book who now sees her own boundless potential mirrored in this shining triumph."
"From dreams quietly nurtured to thunderous roars heard across continents. Our Women in Blue didn't just win; they transformed the story. This trophy isn't just a title; it's a proclamation," the Delhi Chief Minister said in an X post.
"It's for every girl with a bat or a book who now sees her own boundless potential mirrored in this shining triumph. This victory belongs to every Indian who stood proud, cheered loudly, and hoped with their heart; to the grandmothers who prayed, the fathers who coached, the young girls who dared to dream. Every Indian rises in pride. Our hearts resonate together. Our voices echo louder. The future is Blue," she added.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also congratulated the Indian women's cricket team.
"Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the Indian women's cricket team for defeating South Africa in the ICC World Cup final and becoming world champions!" Dhami said in a post on X.
"With tireless hard work, dedication, and unwavering self-confidence, you have enhanced the prestige of the country on the global stage. We are proud of you," he added.
Indian batting icon Virat Kohli hailed the national women's team, saying that they deserve all the applause for their historic feat, which saw "years of hard work come to life finally".
After heartbreaks in the 2005 and 2017 finals, the luck, skill set, balance and depth favoured Team India, a clinical Women in Blue overcame South Africa, the first-time finalists, by 52 runs to secure their first-ever World Cup title across both T20I and ODI formats. All-round performances from Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma were the crowning jewels for the team in the title clash.
"The girls have created history, and I could not be prouder as an Indian to see the hard work of so many years come to life finally. They deserve all the applause and a big congratulation to Harman and the whole team for achieving this historic feat. Also congratulations to the whole squad and the management for the work behind the scenes. Well done india. Enjoy the moment to the fullest. This will inspire generations of girls to take up the sport in our country. Jai hind," Virat Kohli wrote on Instagram.
Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also pointed out how, just like the 1983 World Cup win by the men's team inspired an entire generation to dream big, this Indian team has "inspired countless young girls across the country to pick up a bat and ball". (ANI)
