"Operation Sindoor, most successful operation": Army Chief Gen Dwivedi at book launch

New Delhi [India], January 22 (ANI): Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday lauded 'Operation Sindoor' as a historic success, emphasising that the operation "shattered long-standing assumptions" about India's decision-making and "military mobilisation cycles".
The Army Chief attended the launch of the book titled 'Red Lines Redrawn: Operation Sindoor and India's New Normal'.
Speaking at the launch here, General Dwivedi said, "Operation Sindoor also showed that jointness is no longer something we aspire to do in seminars or discussions. It is something we practised under pressure, and we came out as a successful, synergistic organisation. I can say proudly, Operation Sindoor was the most successful operation. The old assumption that India requires a long time for decision-making, as well as a long, drawn-out mobilisation cycle to synchronise force application, was quietly etched out of the window."
The Army Chief added that the economic domain played a crucial role in supporting the military efforts. "The economic domain saw a slew of actions by the government, which enabled us before, during and even after the operations," Dwivedi noted.
However, he cautioned that resilience through Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) was essential for securing long-term success in future military campaigns. "We have to be careful with our supply chains and build in resilience through Atmanirbharta, which is the only solution for the long run," the army chief added.
In his address, General Dwivedi also elaborated on the military's strategic actions. "There were actions in this domain from both sides, but the winner in the long run was the one whose narrative was based on truth and packed with credible evidence," he explained, referring to the precision strikes carried out during Operation Sindoor.
"The world saw on their TV screens how the nine targets were destroyed in a synergistic manner, involving all three forces in 22 minutes of precision, non-escalatory strikes," he added.
He further explained that the operation involved strategic wargaming by the military's red teams to prepare for various escalatory scenarios.
"We were fully prepared for multiple actions to dominate the complete escalation rate," said General Dwivedi.
He also praised the collaborative effort behind the book, which was co-authored by two army officers, an Air Force officer, and a diplomat.
"I've read a number of books on Operation Sindoor, but this is the first book I've come across that brings together such a diverse team," General Dwivedi remarked.
Reflecting on the timing of the operation, the Army Chief revealed that 'Operation Sindoor' was launched in late April, but details were kept under wraps until after the operation's success.
"Operation Sindoor was given to me on the 29th-30th of April, but it was not put out in the media," he said.
He added that the tweet "Justice is Served" received record-breaking social media traffic. "And as you're aware, the tweet Justice is Served had huge record hits on Twitter," he said.
Operation Sindoor was a military action aimed at destroying terrorist bases in Pakistan, launched after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025, which killed 26 people. The Indian military attacked terrorist bases in Pakistan, killing several terrorists. (ANI)
