"One of the greatest ambassadors Assam has ever had": Karnataka DyCM Shivakumar pays tribute to Zubeen Garg

Shivakumar attended the 13th day post-death rituals organised at Jorhat, where multiple political leaders gathered to pay respects.

Jorhat (Assam) [India], October 1 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday met with the wife of Zubeen Garg, Garima Saikia Garg and offered condolences on behalf of the Congress Party on her husband's demise.
Shivakumar attended the 13th day post-death rituals organised at Jorhat, where multiple political leaders gathered to pay respects.
Speaking to the media, the Karnataka DyCM stressed that Zubeen Garg was one of the "greatest ambassadors" Assam has ever had.
He also highlighted that Zubeen Garg's music is immortal as he has contributed to more than 40 languages.
"I have come here to pay my respects to Zubeen Garg on behalf of the Indian National Congress and Rahul Gandhi. Zubeen Garg is one of the greatest ambassadors that Assam has ever had. He stood with the people of Assam during every difficult time, his music is immortal. He has contributed to more than 40 languages. His passing away is a great loss to the entire nation and music world," Shivakumar mentioned.
Earlier, Union Minister and Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, assured that whoever is involved in the death of iconic singer Zubeen Garg, "will not be spared" and be "given exemplary punishment", amid the ongoing investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Sonowal also attended the post-death rituals of the singer.
"From the side of the government, the investigation which has started, the clear message from the government is that someone who is involved in the incident will be given strictest punishment. That is clear. No one will be spared, whoever is involved will be given exemplary punishment," the Union Minister told ANI.
Earlier, Shyamkanu Mahanta, organiser of the North East Music Festival in Singapore, and Siddharth Sharma, manager of singer Zubeen Garg, were sent to 14 days' police custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Kamrup on Wednesday in connection with the death of the singer. Heavy security personnel were deployed at the CID office, Guwahati, where Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma were being questioned.
The 52-year-old Assamese music icon died on September 19 following a scuba diving accident in Singapore. His mortal remains were first flown to Delhi and later transported to Guwahati on September 21 by a commercial flight. (ANI)
