Cuttack (Odisha) [India], July 18 (ANI): The Odisha Excise Department's AIAB Central Unit in Cuttack, under the leadership of the Excise Commissioner, has conducted a substantial operation to dismantle an illicit network involved in the production of counterfeit alcohol.
This initiative targeted a facility engaged in the manufacture of counterfeit liquor located in Tamando, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
According to Dharmendra Mallik, Excise Commissioner of Odisha, the two accused were brought to the Cuttack Excise Head Office for investigation. The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 6,203.52 litres of counterfeit branded alcohol.
Among the confiscated items are Old Monk Rum (180ml bottles), McDowell's No. 1 (180ml bottles), and Iconic Whiskey (180ml bottles), stated the officials. The total estimated market value of the seized stock is around ₹77,29,910, according to the Excise Commissioner's briefing.
The commissioner shared that officers from the AIAB Central Unit and local excise teams collaborated in apprehending those involved.
"Our teams unearthed every category of liquor being fraudulently produced," he stated.
Investigations are ongoing, with several suspects already detained and enquiries launched to uncover the full network behind the racket.
A thorough investigation is underway, targeting everyone involved. Authorities are tracing supply chains and distribution networks. Additional raids may follow as the investigation expands.
This operation underscores Odisha's zero-tolerance policy towards adulterated and counterfeit liquor: a serious public health threat. The Excise Department urges consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicions of counterfeit products. (ANI)
