Puri (Odisha) [India], October 18 (ANI): Devotees visiting the Jagannath Temple in Odisha's Puri have welcomed the decision of the Temple Administration to enforce a dress code for devotees on the premises from January 1, 2024.
A devotee from Chandigarh Mangala Devi said, "We are forgetting our rich culture and traditions. I think this step to implement dress code in Jagannath temple is a good step. When we are going to a temple to have darshan, our dress code symbolizes our country's culture."
While taking to ANI, Ranjan Kumar Das, Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple said, "Now we are urging people to come in a decently-dressed manner to the temple. For now, many people are coming to Jagannath temple in shorts, ragged jeans, and some in very weird dresses. While going inside the temple sanity should be maintained by pilgrims, but in some cases, we found that this is being violated that also affects the mindsets of other people who are visiting temple."
So, keeping that in view we consulted with various members, Stake holders, Chattisa Nijoga, Niti Sub-Committee and with everybody's opinion we came up with the decision. However, we are not insisting on any kind of fixed dress code, we are just requesting the people to come dressed nicely and decently.
Regarding the same awareness program also continuing in all guest houses and hotels that are located in Puri. Similarly, the Yatri pandas and others sevayat categories through whom people come to visit temples were also being requested to sensitise people. (ANI)
