Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 18 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today defended his decision to invite litterateurs to the Congress party office and said there was nothing wrong with it.
Replying to reporters' queries at a press conference in Vidhana Soudha on inviting Academy chairmen to a meeting at the KPCC office, he said, "There is no rule that litterateurs can't become politicians. I called the Academy chairmen for the meeting at the party office. There is nothing wrong in it, they are appointed by the government."
"Authorities are not autonomous bodies. All are politicians, everyone does politics in their own way. Some say it and some don't. We had sent the invitations to everyone, some attended and some did not. The media may perceive it that way, but there is nothing wrong in it," he added.
Asked about increasing the water tariff in Bengaluru, he said, "The water tariff has not been increased for the last 14 years. It is becoming difficult for the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to pay the electricity bills and payrolls. The Board has been incurring loss after loss every year. Should the water tariff be increased or not?" (ANI)
