New Delhi [India], July 28 (ANI): BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government over the basement flooding incident that claimed the lives of three students in Old Rajinder Nagar in the national capital.
Poonawalla alleged "criminal negligence" and held the ruling party responsible for the deaths.
"It is not just an accident, it is a murder committed by the Aam Aadmi Party. It is criminal negligence. The question is who will take the responsibility. There have been several deaths. Do the lives of the people of Delhi hold no value?," Poonawalla asked in a self-made video.
"Arvind Kejriwal and his government's priority is press conferences, advertisements and blame games.AAP is responsible for this. AAP's priority is to save Kejriwal from the liquor scam but they don't care about the lives of the residents of Delhi," the BJP leader said.
Aam Aadmi Party MP and former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal also launched attack on the Delhi government and said that FIR should be filed against the authorities including the Mayor and the Ministers.
"The students are very sad and angry. It has been more than 12 hours, and till now neither any minister of the Delhi government nor the mayor of MCD nor any officer has come. I believe that these deaths are not a disaster. This is murder. An FIR should be registered against all these big government officials," Swati Maliwal said while speaking to ANI on Sunday.
The AAP MP also urged the government to provide at least Rs 1 crore compensation to the kin of the deceased.
"It is not yet known whether 3 have died or more have died. Compensation of Rs 1 crore should be given to all the students who have died. The minister and mayor should come here immediately and apologise to them. Delhi will not run like this. I will raise this issue in Parliament," she said.
Delhi police on Sunday arrested two persons, the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching centre, where basement flooding due to rains claimed lives of three students in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar.
According to the police, the victims have been identified as Shreya Yadav, a native of Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana; and Nivin Dalwin, a resident of Kerala's Ernakulam.
The Central Delhi incident comes days after a UPSC aspirant was electrocuted on a waterlogged street in the national capital. (ANI)
