New Delhi [India], December 18 (ANI): Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Wednesday said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remark on BR Ambedkar is "not at all acceptable."
Speaking with ANI, Venugopal said that Ambedkar is the pillar behind the Constitution. He added that BJP 'used' Ambedkar's name for "capturing votes", however Shah's remark is a "reflection of their mindset."
"Yesterday the Home Minister, the number two man of BJP, what was the way he spoke about it? The people of India believe that Ambedkar ji is the pillar behind the Constitution. The way in which Amit Shah ji spoke about Ambedkar ji is not at all acceptable...For capturing votes in the election, they used to say Ambedkar-Ambedkar. Now it has come out from Amit Shah's mouth himself that Ambedkar ji's name is irritating to them. This is a reflection of thier mindset," Venugopal said.
Venugopal said that BJP has 'repeatedly' targeted Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in parliament, however, Amit Shah's remark on Ambedkar is "shocking to us."
"Whenever discussions take place in the Parliament, their only target is to attack Pandit Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, let them do it, we will face it. But yesterday, unfortunately, the way in which he talked about Dr BR Ambedkar was shocking to us," he said.
This comes after Amit Shah lashed out at the Congress party and said that it had become a 'fashion' for the party to take Ambedkar's name.
"If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar then they would have got heaven for seven lives," Shah said.
Meanwhile, AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal BJP and Shah over his remark on B R Ambedkar and said that BJP has become "arrogant" and doesn't consider anyone anything
Responding to Union Minister Amit Shah's statement in Rajya Sabha, the Former Delhi CM said that Ambedkar is "no less than a God" for every child in the country.
"See how Amit Shah is making fun of Baba Saheb Ambedkar in the Parliament. These BJP people have become so arrogant that they don't consider anyone as anything. Yes, Amit Shah ji. Baba Saheb is no less than God for every child of this country," Kejriwal wrote on social media platform X.
INDIA bloc carried out protests at the Parliament premises over Shah's remark, leading to the adjournment of both houses - Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha - till 2:00 PM today. (ANI)
