New Delhi [India], Oct. 26 (ANI): Highlighting the rich and varied culture of the North-eastern region, the Komrem community from Manipur recently celebrated the silver jubilee of its student union in the national capital.

The Komrem community is one of the smallest and oldest indigenous tribes of Manipur.

Organized by the Komrem Students' Union Delhi under the theme 'Serve Your People', the event was graced by the Assam's MP Ripun Bora along with Indian Olympic Boxer M.C. Mary Kom, who herself belongs to the community.

The gathering witnessed the diverse culture and vibrant collections of traditional attires of the Komrem community.

"Even after being such small community, they have produced the world talent like Mary Kom. This is a proud moment, not only for the people of Manipur or Komrem community but for the entire nation," MP Bora said.

Numerous students participated in the cultural event and performed here showcasing their talent. But it was the traditional dance of the community that left the audience awestruck.

Komrem community is a composite group consisting of six small ethnic tribes of Manipur, namely Kom, Aimol, Chiru, Koireng, Purum and Kharam, which are scattered in different parts of the state.

"We have organised this event to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of our community and the student union in the national capital.," M. Chungreng, President, KRSUD said.

Meanwhile, students from the Tripura province also rolled out a red carpet and warmly welcomed the freshers from their community here.

Organized by the Tripura Student Forum Delhi, the 15th Freshers meet event brought the young vibrant community together.

Speaking at the event as Chief Guest, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju encouraged the students to put on more efforts to achieve their goals and dreams in life.

He also appealed the student community to have mental toughness in order to stand firmed and focussed.

"If one manages to get good education, I think one's purpose is served. But if one stay here in Delhi for few years and go back without acquiring a any degree, then their purpose of coming here will not serve," Rijiju said. (ANI)
