Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 15 (ANI): Karam Singh, aged 92 and an Indian Army veteran, hoisted the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day at his residence near Jammu.
Karam Singh, who was given the honorary rank of lieutenant, took part in the 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars.
His son, honorary captain Avtar Singh, also retired from the Army. He joined his father in hoisting the tricolour.
Karam Singh’s grandson is also currently serving as a soldier in the Indian Army. Notably, all three generations belong to the 7 Sikh Light Infantry Battalion.
The unit of the Army remains in touch with one of its oldest veterans on a regular basis, Indian Army officials said.
Meanwhile, Independence Day was celebrated across the country with Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort this morning in the presence of various dignitaries, ministers, and invited guests.
Around 1,800 people from different walks of life and from all across the country were invited as special guests to the main celebratory event in the national capital.
India completed 75 years of independence last year and entered the ‘Amrit Kaal’, a period of 25 years for making the country a developed nation by 2047. (ANI)
