Nobel Memorial Wall inaugurated at Delhi's Rajiv Chowk Metro station

New Delhi [India], Nov.1 (ANI); The Embassy of Sweden and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Ltd today jointly inaugurated the Nobel Memorial Wall at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station of the Delhi Metro network.

Nobel Memorial Wall inaugurated at Delhi's Rajiv Chowk Metro station

New Delhi [India], Nov.1 (ANI); The Embassy of Sweden and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Ltd today jointly inaugurated the Nobel Memorial Wall at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station of the Delhi Metro network.

The aim of exhibiting this wall is to spread further awareness about all the Nobel Laureates from India and their contribution to the society. The wall will be on display from 1st November to 7th November 2017 at Rajiv Chowk Metro station of the Delhi Metro.

The one-of-its kind Wall exhibits paintings by the students from top Fine Art Colleges in Delhi NCR. The portraits of Rabindranath Tagore, CV Raman, Hargobind Khorana, Mother Teresa, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Amartya Sen, Venkatraman Ramakrishnan and Kailash Satyarthi were selected by way of a painting competition conducted by the Embassy.

The jury for the competition, which received an overwhelming response, consisted of India Today Group Editor Kaveree Bamzai, Artist Naresh Kapuria and Head of Economic section at the Embassy, Josa Karre.

Ms. Anna Ekstrom, Minister for Upper Secondary School and Adult Education and Training, Government of Sweden and Mr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC together unveiled the Wall.

Speaking on the occasion, Swedish Minister Ekstrom said, "I feel honoured to inaugurate the Nobel Memorial Wall. From the first non-European Nobel laureate, Tagore, as well as the first non-European science laureate C V Raman, to a modern day fighter for children's rights, Satyarthi, the remarkable contributions of Indian Nobel laureates have inspired many across the world."

Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC and H.E. Mr. Harald Sandberg, Ambassador of Sweden to India, together unveiled the Wall.

Also speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC said: "The inauguration of the Nobel Memorial Wall at Rajiv Chowk Metro station has become a tradition to mark the beginning of the Sweden India Nobel Memorial Week. This is seventh year in a row that the Wall is displayed at Rajiv Chowk station. This being an interchange station provides the opportunity to large number of people using the station to know and get inspiration from our Nobel Laureates. I would like to thank the Swedish Embassy for partnering with us in this initiative where we remember the Indian Nobel Laureates for their contribution to the world."

Partnering companies for Sweden India Nobel Memorial Week 2017 are: Atlas Copco, IKEA, Oriflame, SEB, SAAB, Sandvik, Scania, Tetra Pak, Volvo Cars and Volvo Group. (ANI)
