New Delhi [India], October 15 (ANI): Congress MP Kumari Selja on Wednesday slammed the Haryana government over the recent suicide of another officer, following the Y Puran Kumar incident.
Selja emphasised that these incidents reflect a profound mistrust in the system, branding it as the Haryana government's "biggest failure", highlighting the growing concern over the safety and well-being of government officials in the state.
"After what happened to Y Puran Kumar, another officer has committed suicide, which means there is no trust left in the system. This is the biggest failure of the Haryana government that officers are committing suicide in this manner. We have been saying from day one that if the government is in favour of independent and impartial justice, then it will be found out why such situations are happening repeatedly. This government will have to answer," she told reporters.
On Tuesday, another officer, identified as ASI Sandeep, was found under suspicious circumstances near an agricultural field in the Ladhot village of Rohtak.
According to Superintendent of Police Rohtak, Surendra Singh Bhoria, the victim worked as an Assistant Sub-Inspector in Haryana Police. He stated that the forensic team has been called to the incident site, and an investigation is underway.
"This was a hardworking ASI of our Police Department, Sandeep. He was very honest. His body has been found. A forensic team has been called in, and an investigation is underway. He was posted in Cyber Cell," Bhoria told reporters.
The incident came days after the incident of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who died allegedly due to suicide at his Chandigarh residence on October 7.
Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself at his residence in Chandigarh on October 7.
In the 'final note' he left behind, the senior officer accused eight high-ranking police officials, including Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur, of "blatant caste-based discrimination, targeted mental harassment, public humiliation and atrocities."
Following the ongoing controversy, IPS Om Parkash Singh has been assigned the additional charge of Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana after DGP Shatrujeet Kapur was placed on leave following allegations surrounding the death of IPS Y Puran Kumar. (ANI)
