Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh) [India], April 29 (ANI): Amidst the ongoing controversy over the alleged "obscene videos" case linked to JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, Congress leader Sachin Pilot said on Monday that there is no place for such acts in a civilised society and "strict action should be taken" against these people.
He also took a dig at the BJP-led Centre for not taking action against allegations of sexual harassment by women wrestlers against a BJP MP.
"...No one can tolerate such acts. In a civilised society, there is no place for such incidents. I think strict and effective action should be taken against these people, no matter how big the person is, having association with any party or on which post...," Pilot told ANI.
"The people who are sitting at the Centre... Women wrestlers also held protests for a long time (over allegations of sexual harassment) demanding justice but could not get it. There has to be an investigation," he said.
Prajwal Revanna was booked in an alleged sexual harassment case on April 28 following complaints by his former housekeeper. The case has been registered under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation and outraging the dignity of a woman.
As per the complaint, the victim has claimed that both HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna sexually assaulted her. The complainant further claimed that when Revanna's wife was not at home, he touched her inappropriately and used to sexually assault her.
The Karnataka government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged obscene video case against MP Revanna. The SIT headed by IPS officer Vijay Kumar Singh, and includes DG CID Suman D Pennekar and IPS officer Seema Latkar have started the investigation in the case.
In this regard, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said that action should be taken against any individual who has committed something wrong.
"There is no problem for alliance candidates; if somebody has done something wrong, then action should be taken against them according to the relevant law. I have nothing much to say," Pralhad Joshi said.
Prajwal Revanna is seeking a fresh term in the Lower House from Hassan as a candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and is pitted against Congress' Shreyas Patel. (ANI)
