"No place for party politics when it comes to interests of country": Delhi CM Rekha Gupta

New Delhi [India], August 25 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday emphasised the primacy of national interest over party politics, stating that there is "no place for party politics when it comes to the interests of the country."
Speaking during the concluding session of the All India Speakers Conference held at the Delhi Legislative Assembly, the Delhi CM Gupta called on all public representatives to renew their commitment to the oath taken while assuming office, as she highlighted the legacy of Vittalbhai Patel, India's first elected Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly in 1925.
"This is also a time to renew the oath we once took when assuming our official responsibilities. Today, those entrusted with the duty of running the nation are all seated here. Vitthal ji stands as an inspiration to all of us. He showed how one can work even in the most challenging circumstances. His message was clear: the nation must always come first, and we must place ourselves last," she stated.
Gupta lauded the efforts of the Delhi Assembly Speaker for making the event possible and highlighted the significance of the venue, calling the Assembly building "a symbol of the beginning of Indian democracy".
She also reflected on the sacrifices of freedom fighters and urged the leaders to uphold the spirit of "Nation First" in all legislative deliberations.
"This building stands as a symbol of the beginning of Indian democracy. Millions of freedom fighters laid down their lives to win us independence. Vithalbhai Patel set before us ideals that remain a guiding light for all of us. We must move forward with the spirit of Nation First. There should be no place for party politics when it comes to the interests of the country. Remembering such a towering personality today, we can truly say that he is an inspiration for us all," she added.
"We have every right to debate and deliberate in the House, but we must always keep public interest at the centre," she further asserted.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and Jyotiraditya Scindia and Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta were also present at the event.
Khattar also addressed the conference, underscoring the growing role of technology and transparency in governance. "Today, we must embrace transparency, AI, and technology. The Assembly going paperless is certainly a great step for the environment," he said.
Khattar also paid tribute to Vittalbhai Patel, describing his election in 1925 as a milestone in India's democratic journey.
"A hundred years ago, in 1925, when Vitthalbhai Patel was elected, it marked the true beginning of democracy in this country. Whether in the Lok Sabha or in the Vidhan Sabha, the role of the Speaker is extremely important. It is also one of the most challenging responsibilities," the Union Minister said.
He noted the benefits of digital transformation in legislatures but also called for caution in the use of Artificial Intelligence. (ANI)
