New Delhi [India], October 5 (ANI): Delhi's Health and Family Welfare minister Pankaj Kumar Singh has pledged to take strict action against individuals involved in the sale of adulterated desi ghee on Sunday.
The minister also announced that an investigation into the sale of this adulterated ghee is currently underway, with security officials actively investigating the matter.
"Our investigation is ongoing. No such person will be spared who is found selling fake goods. Our entire team is working on this," Singh told reporters.
This statement follows a major crackdown on the distribution of adulterated food in Delhi. The Delhi Police's crime branch dismantled three illegal manufacturing units of adulterated desi ghee operating in North-East Delhi on Thursday.
According to an official statement, the crime branch, in collaboration with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), conducted coordinated raids at Shiv Vihar, Karawal Nagar, and Mustafabad, resulting in the recovery of 1,625 kg of adulterated desi ghee, which led to the arrest of six individuals.
The arrested have been identified as Shafiq, Shakir, Sharukh, Jamaluddin, and Yusuf, along with his son Mehboob. The police stated that the accused mixed Dalda, vegetable oil, and other chemicals into the ghee, which was then sold to various individuals in the market.
"In the first interrogation, we got to know that he (Shafiq) has been doing this for the past 8-10 years. Per month, he used to sell around 400 tins of ghee per month. Each tin was 15 kg," Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vikram Singh told ANI."
Police said the 1,625 kg of adulterated ghee was seized from three locations, and six people have been arrested in the case. (ANI)
